Almost 2000 years ago...

A view of  Mt. Vesuvius from Pompeii

Chariot tracks remain in
the streets

Looking out from a bordello

….Mount Vesuvius erupted and overwhelmed the early Roman city of Pompeii with a poisonous cloud of gas which was followed by a blanket of ash. 250 years ago, the excavation of the city began and a slice of ancient Roman life was unveiled. This is a remarkable site and a 3 hour tour does not do it justice. These are some of the temples, houses, shops, murals, streets and squares that seem to have been frozen in time.

When the streets flooded,
the stepping stones were used
